Getting a Head Start

Lakshmipriya Baskar was in her final year at university when she was first introduced to PayPal. An employee-focused culture and the ability to make an impact on the community encouraged her to apply for a software engineer internship with the values-driven company.

“Even though we were all working virtually because of COVID, everyone was very welcoming and helpful. I was assigned to work with a team that was responsible for a few front-end tasks; including a full webpage redesign. I managed to see the outcome of my work within the duration of my internship and that was very impactful for me,” said Lakshmipriya.

After a six-month virtual internship, Lakshmipriya was offered a role within PayPal’s Platform Engineering Team. As she transitioned from an intern to a full-time employee, PayPal’s onboarding program expanded her professional network and provided training to build foundational competencies that enabled her to accelerate her development. Today, she’s a full stack developer and has added leadership responsibilities as scrum master for her team.

“The best part of working [at PayPal] is the people. They are willing to help you. If you go and ask them for suggestions and advice, there are a lot of people willing to mentor you. I’m in a better space, both personally and professionally, because of the mentorship experience,” Lakshmipriya added.
