PayPal India MD's tech love grew during lockdown; bought voice-controlled lamps, vacuum cleaner for his laptop
Anupam Pahuja, Managing director, PayPal India, on the range of gadgets he has bought as he works from home.
Work wanderer
"Not only am I working from home, but we have two teenagers who were also distance learning until recently. So, my home office had to move wherever my kids and wife were not. This meant using the dining table, my couch, the balcony and sometimes even the kitchen while I was making myself a meal.”
Ergonomics at work
"However, as time progressed, I realised the importance of having the right ergonomics for work.
I already had a desk in the bedroom which I was using for work, but my trusty Herman Miller Aeron chair was older than my kids. After decades of faithful service, it had to be retired to make way for a new one of the same model and make.”
Light and easy
"Since most of the time I am on video calls, I had to do something about the lighting, which meant additional table lamps for the room. So, I bought a table lamp from Xiaomi that has a dedicated computer and reading mode. I now have a semi-automated lit up studio – Sounds fancy, but it is just four table lamps that are voice-controlled and can change the colour and luminance of my bedroom.”
Smart home
“I have too many gadgets and during the lockdown, this passion grew significantly. From automated lights and a vacuum cleaner for my laptop (yes, there is one available), to an ultrasonic cleaning device and a safe with a fingerprint reader – I can go on and on. I think I have acquired every new gadget that has been launched.”
Background check
"Given the number of video calls I have to attend in a day, a live background for video calls would be interesting – imagine being on a call with a video of a Himalayan village in the background, with flowing river and the soft cooing of birds behind you.”
