PayPal and Deutsche Telekom Expand European Reach with Carrier Payments Collaboration
Feb 25, 2014 |
BARCELONA, Spain--Mobile World Congress – PayPal and Deutsche Telekom today announced a direct carrier billing relationship, which enables Deutsche Telekom users to make purchases directly to their mobile phone account. Now a part of PayPal’s carrier payment network, Deutsche Telekom and PayPal will help to extend carrier payments across Europe and will provide an opportunity for both companies to reach more consumers and digital goods merchants. In 2013, more than $9 billion of digital goods payment volume went through PayPal.
As one of the world's leading integrated telecommunications companies, Deutsche Telekom has a presence in 14 markets throughout Europe, with some 144 million mobile customers. Together PayPal and Deutsche Telekom will make it easy for digital goods merchants who have not adopted carrier billing to offer this payment option to consumers across Western, Central and Eastern Europe. Deutsche Telekom joins more than 250 carriers as part of PayPal’s carrier payments network.
With PayPal, major carriers such as Deutsche Telekom, can offer their subscribers a convenient and secure way to purchase digital goods—such as eBooks, music and in-game content across digital merchant websites and mobile applications. Additionally, carrier payments with PayPal, require only that the consumer remember his or her mobile phone number, meaning there are no account numbers, logins, or passwords to forget.
Carrier billing with Deutsche Telekom provides a convenient, secure and fast payment method for consumers. Further still, carrier payments with PayPal increases a digital goods merchant’s reach and helps provide incremental sales. PayPal gives the merchant access to carriers, like Deutsche Telekom, who are committed to expanding business opportunities for both the merchant and carrier.
